Product Description:-
Paul T. Frankl (1886–1958) created the Amoeba Table - also known as "Model No. 5005" or the "Cloud Table"—for the Johnson Furniture Company of Michigan in the late 1940s. This low, organically shaped piece was marketed as a "cocktail table," a modern reinterpretation of the traditional coffee table. At the time, Frankl was among the most celebrated American furniture designers and counted modernist figures like Frank Lloyd Wright and Raymond Hood among his close friends.
The table's biomorphic silhouette was likely influenced by Scandinavian pioneers such as Alvar Aalto and Kaare Klint. Yet Frankl infused it with his own playful eccentricity, incorporating a cork tabletop and splayed, outward-facing legs. These choices not only enhanced its stability but also defied conventional geometric norms. The result is a mid-century modern classic, both casual and functional, and perfectly aligned with the spirit of its era.
Widely regarded as one of Paul T. Frankl’s signature works, the Amoeba Table remains a striking and timeless design. Today, it is being reissued in faithful accordance with the original specifications, with the blessing of Frankl’s heirs.
